I plan on using this blog ONLY as a way to guide people to my Face Book page to showcase my work, show a listing of my pricing and my availability.

High School Seniors Wanted~

It is almost graduation time for the class of 2010~ Wow, I feel old saying I was a graduate of 1993 :-)

I am running a contest for upcoming 'seniors'.
Here are the rules:

* Must be graduating in 2011- so juniors this year

* Must be in the Olentangy or Dublin School District (Live in Powell or Dublin)

* FaceBook users- must use FaceBook regularly

* Become a 'fan' of Jennifer Lea Photography and suggest to friends on FB and through word of mouth

* Let me tag photos from our session to be used on profile page

* Use a profile pic with my logo as their main profile image for remainder of class year- you can circulate from the many photos you will have

* Help me get my name out in your school and with your friends, pass out my referral cards, etc...
If you are interested, first- become a fan. Second, please send me an email with your name, activities in school, and what your dreams are after graduation. Mark, my almost 3 year old son, will draw 2 winners in April.
There will be a BOY and GIRL winner. Session will be in late April or May. This is a value of over $250 for each session. Senior sessions begin at $225. They are apprx 2-3 hours with multiple wardrobe and location changes.
Please have them in by April 4th. Announcement of winners will be on Monday, April 5th!Hurry, hurry!

I know, can you beleive it? Spring is right around the corner. Hard to see over the snow banks-ha!

I am starting to get quite a few emails and voice mails about booking for those prime dates in April and May. I wanted to let you all know that I hope to NOT turn away any business by fitting all in that want sessions. In order for me to do this, I will have to line up multiple sessions on the same Saturday and Sunday for those 4 weekends (4/25 and 4/26, 5/9 and 5/16 and 5/22 and 5/23). I will scout out a perfect location to capture those Spring-time photos we all crave. I have some ideas and I will secure a spot 2-3 weeks out from those dates. I promise you won't be disappointed. 5/8 or 5/15 will open up too- when I know what day my son's bday party will be and whether or not I do a wedding with another photographer.

The times will be apprx at 10, 11:30, 3:30 and 5 each day. If I need to open up more spots I will work on the evenings during the week too. I'll cross that bridge if needed. Please let me know if you would like me to save a spot for you. A $25 deposit is required, as I am booking up and I need to make arrangements.

I really am super excited to start back up full time again. I miss seeing all my kids and I cannot wait to see how big they have gotten. I have enjoyed doing the few sessions I have during my slow period. You may reply here if you know a time/date you want or contact me via phone or email.

Curious 'Eli'...

Stay tuned for more of this cutie-pie. Since it is still very cold out and we have like 18" of snow on the ground (wink), we had the session at their home. Baby Eli, who is almost 10 months old, was very curious about me and my camera, but was all smiles and full of sweetness! His room was decorated so cute and he just loved it when Momma and Daddy read him some of his favorite books. Check back throughout the week as I add some of my favorite images.

Merry Christmas~ in January

Yes, we have Christmas dresses on in January. This little one turned 2, on Dec 31st. We have been waiting for a (semi) warm day to capture her 2 year old pics. Today could not have been a prettier day (in January) with a high of 50!!!! Mommy was nervous because she could not be at our session- only Daddy. So they practiced getting her hats and bows in her hair just right. I think everyone will be thrilled with the images. Please stay tuned for more throughout the week.

This adorable 20 mos. old was all smiles and full of lots of things to tell me (well- it was her own little language) and it tugged my heart strings. So sweet and such a captivating little girl! She wanted to follow me everywhere, sit next to me and hold my hand while we walked along the paths. I told her Momma I wanted to adopt her! I could of just scooped her up and snuck her home.......stay tuned!

Vintage Grace in Powell

Vintage Grace and her Matilda Jane outfit- isn't it cute? Of course, she wanted to take it off and put on all her other pretty dresses they brought just for our session in Powell. This one is my favorite though- love the layers and colors. I nicknamed this toddler 'Vintage Grace', she just has that vintage vibe to me- it is the big, beautiful eyes and her trendy haircut, I think. We had so much fun walking all around. She especially LOVED this door. We would say 'Holy Moley' and she would laugh and giggle and dance. I captured so many fun images from this little one who was full of personality. River Boys...

Wanted to go super vintage here- while shooting (change settings to adjust) and post processing...

I hope they don't kill me for posting this picture...It is one of my favs (them kissing)! This family was so very sweet to work with. They found me (or I like to say I found them) in The Village Voice, so they are also a semi-neighbor of mine in Powell. Their boys, Jamie and Matthew were ALL BOYS. We had fun exploring and sneaking up on grasshoppers, looking at the 'turtles' in the River and running though Scioto Park. We first got some shots by the River since they love the water and boating- Mom thought it would be fitting and I so agree. I have many more images to go through, but I wanted to post some of my favorite ones thus far. Stay tuned for more..... I have this image in my vintage technique for you too.... Have this w/o the frame too- just thought I would try it w/ one of my 'frames'...

We were so happy the weather decided to be pretty for our hour session. If it had decided to rain again, it would have been the 2nd time we would of had to reschedule.

Since the ground was still a bit wet, I suggested we take a walk through historic, downtown Powell. Miss Natalie, 2.5, LOVED it. She loved playing with all the antiques, the shells in the baskets and the little wagon we found. I think her favorite was Mrs. Jenn 'rollin'. When I would get on the ground, she would giggle and say..."Why are you rollin Mrs Jen?".....So cute and such a vocabulary! It was so nice to meet the two of you and I look forward to working with you again soon. Enjoy! Will add some more later this week too...

Rita was kind enough to allow me full control on where to go with this session. She wanted some pictures of her and Croy to give to her husband for his birthday. How cute and precious are these 2 sister's? Ummm- yes, very cute! They had me all over the park. Wheww! Big sister, Emilee sure loves her 'sheepie', climbing trees and lollipops....I am sure you can tell by some of the pictures I took. They are some of my favorite images! I think they turned out fabulous, and it was totally not planned! Those are my favorite moments. Little sister, Samantha was all about the swing and watching her big sister. Eleven year old, Blossom was such a doll to photograph. I have gotten to know this family over the year they moved here from Pennsylvania. Her Mom and I are great friends. She lives right down the street and is a BIG hockey fan too. Don't let the pretty smile fool you- this girl can play some serious hockey.

She is the most well mannered little girl- addressing me by "Mrs. Simon" and always "please" and "thank you" and "what can I do to help you, Mrs. Simon". So sweet!!!

We got to go to the observatory, some railroad tracks and we have to finish this session when it decides NOT to rain and maybe get above 70 degrees. I have some great spots picked out and WE cannot wait. Stay tuned for more this week!

Please bear with me being SO far being on blog posts. I had 8 sessions in 9 days and my sister in law went into labor 15 days early! So exciting AND BUSY at the same time! Never to complain about taking pictures,I just hate to be behind. I promise to catch up this week. I only have 2 sessions this week- both newborns.

Alan, 5, was so fun to photograph again this year. He is all boy- wanting to run around and explore and catch bugs- spiders in particular. He caught a Grandaddy Longleg (no, not me-ha) spider and his Momma even let him keep it and take him home with them. They have such a special bond. I guess the saying is true..."Mom's and their sons" and "Daddy's and their little girls". I really love being a Mom to a son too. Times to photograph these 2 handsome brothers, Preston and Hayden. This family has been so patient with me and this crazy weather. We had to reschedule twice for rain. Then after our session today (the third appt) it stormed like crazy 3 hours after our session....so three is the number here, I guess! Justin, who is 5 (yea 5) had my heart at hello. Oh my gosh, what a handsome son Mrs. Kris has! We walked all around Innis Woods, him as our tour guide of course, and saw all kinds of neat things....At the end of our time together, he gave me a BIG hug. As I was walking to my mini-van, he yelled..."Wait- one more thing". I look down and he is at my leg tugging my shirt, asking me to come down next to him. I kneeled down and he gave me a big kiss on the cheek and smiled. Oh my- made me melt! There goes 'another piece of my heart'.

Our session was done, but when I saw this I grabbed my camera fast and snapped this shot of him playing peek-a-boo with me......while his Daddy was getting the cake off of him.
OMG'sh- love this one....the way the sun is reflecting off his eyes and his Momma giving him a kiss!

Cameron just turned one and his family wanted me to capture some images for them. He had just begun to walk- so cute! He is such a happy baby and already talking- saying touch, trees and Momma of course! He even got to eat his 3rd bday cake. Yay! I got the proof today and am just truly excited to see my business spotlighted in the Powell/Delaware County magazine as the business feature for April 2009. I feel truly honored I was able to be featured. This publication gets mailed to every single resident in the area....so I am hoping for lots of new business! This has been in the works since last Fall, so to see it NOW is just so exciting for me!

To a wonderful 2009.....I will be waiting by my mailbox everyday until I get the magazine- it should be here on Monday ;-)

Well, I am super excited to see this for the first time. This has been in the works since last Fall, and to actaully SEE it feels great! I actually got a sneak peak before the magazine goes out. It should be in the hands of all Powell and Golf Village residents today, I think (by mail). I hope this generates lots of new business and I feel truly blessed I was able to be 'spotlighted'. I am blessed for so many things! I am truly a lucky gal!

Using my 'vintage texture' technique...
Click, Click, Click...'There's no place like home'. When I saw this, the 'Wizard of Oz' came to mind~ hint, my title After doing these 2nd sets of images~ I LOVE the color orange. Especially now with Spring. It looks great with the BLUE sky and black/brown of the leaves and trees. Orange is my new favorite color! I think her attitude boosted with that great color- she was all over the place. Well, for starters I had us on a scavenger hunt looking for 'acorns'. She found one- the image I captured (which I had to be fast on on my toes) is one of my favorite photographs- love it! She carried it with her to the wee end of our session where she gave it to her Mom. I am still working on a few, but take a look into the sea of orange!

I love how this turned out. I had this idea in my head with books........

Oh My....It feels so good to be working again. I actually got to do a session with girls I see quite often. Sarah, their Mom, and I have become very good friend's over the past year or so, and we get together at least 2/x week for playdates and fun- always coffee on hand! I was so excited to take my spin on some images for them.

Miss Maisy, 5 and Mya who will be 2 in a matter of weeks were such great subject's. Miss Maisy was sooo excited to get her picture taken by Mrs. Jennifer! And Miss Mya fell in LOVE with my antique doll- that was mine as a baby. She was loving on her 'baby' and not 'mine'. Ok, then~ :-) At the end of our session, she kindly placed 'her baby' in the back of my van and said 'bye bye baby'.....so precious!

I hope I captured these little girls spirit and essence of their beautiful childhood. Sarah, thanks so much for being a wonderful and true friend. You mean a lot to me and I hope you LOVE your pictures. I have some more I am working on, but here is your sneak peek.

This was hilarious! He was going up and down strummin' his guitar. Again, not taught- just natural to this little rocker!

Love the Mohawk- he just woke up from nap. Had no idea he was going to do this show for us- or I would have put him in some 'Rocker' threads and really spiked his hair ;-)

Mark LOVES his guitar! He was not taught how to 'play' it- so this kid has got the gift of music and naturally feeling beats and rhythms! He is soooooo fun to watch. He gets his leg moving and goes up and down and makes these faces (shown in pics). Again, these are faces- not screams. In fact, if Craig or me start to sing he comes over to us and touches our mouths to stop. Well, I don't blame him- have you heard me sing? Ha! I need to video tape the next time he does 'Eric Clapton' and post it. Little Mark-Cool

Ready Mark- or as Mark say "eddie"...for "ready"...so precious! I say....'What sound does the S make'....and Mark says 'SSSSSSS" with a smile- see next picture So pleased, he said it right!
So...we started doing flashcards with Mark- letters, words, numbers, sentences and he LOVES it! He gets so excited and happy when he gets it right (or wrong-ha). I need to get out the video camera and tape his laugh. If I could bottle it up and give it away, I would. It is so infectious and brings tears to your eyes to hear a child laugh so freely. He is so smart, and I am not just saying that. Mark knows so many things now and we are so proud! We are blessed- truly blessed and I thank GOD for him and Craig everyday! Thank you!

This is my favorite image to date- Mark in October 2008. Well, it was all for good reason. I have been getting my business together because Spring will be here before we know it. Although, judging by today- later rather than sooner. I have been pulling 2008 session images from my old computer, external hardrive and current computer and it has been a very LONG, tedious process. I now know how to better organize my pictures :-) I am about half done, but still have images to pull. Wanted to post some pictures here to say hello.

My website http://www.jenniferleaphotography.net/ is almost complete- still adding images to my portfolio tab. My pricing is up, all but for individual prints. I should have it complete in the following week or two. March 21st is when I begin with my first sessions- 34 more days, not that I am counting or anything :-) Also, April 1st is when I can unveil something- something that has been in the works for awhile and I am so excited to see it!!!!!

Hands of Love

By far, these are my favorite photographs to date! As an artist, I love photographs that embark emotion and feeling for people and for me, these do all and then some! A loving moment between mother and son...and a funny one too???!?! Mark cracks up! He thinks it is so funny to 'hug' Mommy's hands! Mark loves to 'cuddle' with my hands and I am so happy I had my camera to capture this moment between us! I think these are such powerful pictures!

Here he is resting on my left hand, putting his hands on top of mine!'Ralphie' cracking up.... Say cheese handsome one! His chin is super ticklish!

Here we go...... This face is just darling to me! Hairdryer, but he keeped saying 'datum'- well, Mommy knew he was trying to say 'vacuum'...Hey, they sound alike, right!?!?!? And I love his face here! PO'd at Daddy for making him sit there. He did so good, other than the faces, he sat there and let Mrs. Gayle cut away!

So cute again- that face! And yes, that would be me in the background with my second child!

Jennifer as Jim Carey in 'Pet Detective'......

So...you might wonder why my title reads...'Pet Detective'? If you saw the movie and you saw me today, you would get it. I literally roll my down window, stick my head and hands out the window, snap and go. My heart is pounding, and I think I am doing something wrong, even though I am on public roads. I am starting to really enjoy landscape photography and think of my pictures as more of art versus photos. I cannot wait to explore this further.

This poor, abandoned farm is up for sale and it is empty. The Farm is in need of some TLC and I hope to see it back to its glory days soon! If my husband was up for another challenge of building a home or remodeling, I would say- Lets buy it!

Snapshots in a Flash!

So....as a photographer and a Mom to a toddler, I have learned to take pictures fast and today was no exception. On the way to go sledding with friend's, I literally rolled down my window at a stop sign and took some of these 'sites' I drive by almost everyday. It still is insane to me that I live in a family community with a golf course and club with swim and tennis and then right behind me are silos with cows and horses and real farmer's with their soybeans and cool farm equipment that I salivate over. Man, how life has changed (for the better) in the last 3 years or so. I thought I would share some photos from our day......

Mark LOVES his cars. He shakes them up and then sends them all over the place. I took these today inside and I think they turned out really good. I am practicing my indoor photography, and I am seeing much improvement. :-)

I will add some more of Mark and his cars, etc...but he is up now from nap and I must go. Check back later!

After taking a little break from the 'photography world', I broke out THE (ha) camera yesterday and started clicking away. My husband's first reaction was..."oh no, here goes crazy woman with the camera again". No, really- he is happy I have found something I really enjoy doing...he just likes to make fun of me every opportunity he can.

It is amazing how much I miss my camera once I haven't taken any pictures with it for a while. I had my point and shoot with me and decided that was not working for me and although, for convenience it is great- for pictures- not so great!

I am eager to start working again- with creative session starting in the Spring as well as on different project's I have had in the works for quite some time. I need to get together my information and pictures for The Village Voice Magazine- which my business will be featured in this Spring, as well as build my portfolio for my boutique shops in the area. My website (http://www.jenniferleaphotography.net/) is temporarily down, for I am updating the information and adding to it. It is very time consuming and is taking longer than expected. I plan to have it back up in March. And again, network, network and network! I have a couple of families on the 'book's for this year. You may book with me now if you want to reserve a specific date you know you want.

I also want to say thank you to all my clients, family and friends who have spread the word of my photography business. Your kindness and compliments mean a lot and I hope to work with you and your children for a long time. This truly is my passion and I love my 'job'. I thank God everyday for my life, family, good health and friends!!!

On a more personal note....we are eager to add to our family and hope to be pregnant sometime between Feb and May...so keep your fingers crossed. I hear it takes no time or some time...I am praying for the 1 to 3 months timing.

Mark is getting so big- he is 20 months now~ wow! He is over the 100% for height (go figure), 80% for weight and 95% for his head. Hopefully that all adds up to be a smart, professional football player~hehe! Every day he does something to make me laugh and cry (in a good way). Children are such a gift! His latest is putting on our shoes and walking around proud and dancing with hats! Mark is in love with Jennifer Nettles of Sugarland and her song "Stay"! He gets in this trance when he sees it on the computer/TV and hears the song in the car. He loves to give kisses and hugs too and LOVES pizza, salad and cookies (everything I ate pregnant). He is talking up a storm- some is understandable now too-ha!

I hope 2009 brings you all much happiness in your life!

Above: My first click of 2009 and below: Mark in a gown- a HOSPITAL GOWN-ha! We had to take him to the hospital to get an IV in December. He had gotten the dreadful stomach virus and was dehydrated. Mark sick as a dog, was still so sweet and cute-just a little pale- like us all in the Winter :-)

Mark is under there somewhere-ha! So...today we were SOOOOO excited to get out of this house. After being in it for 5+ days with Mark being sick...we were all stir crazy! We drove up to spend the morning in Mansfield. We really tried to walk the grounds at the State Park and Kingwood Mansion, but at 21 degrees it proved a bit much. So after being outside a whole 5 minutes, we packed up and left. We didn't even mind- it just felt good to be outside- even in our van. We cannot wait to go back there and explore more when it is a bit warmer!!!!!! Mark would love it!

To Miss Tess, who turned 8 on December 14th..... Another favorite....Tess reminds me of a young Carolyn Bessette Kennedy......so pretty! You might recognize this cutie from a creative session back in July. I was thrilled to take some Winter photos of Miss Tess who turned 8 this past weekend! Wow~ They grow up so fast! The weather cooperated with us and just started raining at the tail end of our session. So thank you Mother Nature...we already had to reschedule once because of weather~ ugh! Miss Tess looked so pretty in her black coat and long blonde hair. Even the 'mud blocks' on her shoes were pretty with her in them! I had so much fun photographing this one and will be working on them throughout this week and adding more as I go. My only complaint is, I did not get to talk to you all more before it decided to start raining. Stay tuned!!!

Mark the 'Twitcher' at HighBanks

'Twitcher' means one who travels a long distance to see a rare bird. Well, for Mark traveling 8 miles is a long way ;-) An observer would have thought Mark waited his whole 19 months of life to watch these birds outside- he LOVED it!!!! It was soooo funny watching him use the binoculars which he just learned to do on his own observing the other 'twitchers'. There were some serious bird watchers there. We talked to a lady that just moved back here from Georgia and she was on the lookout for some rare bird so she could get that off her 'twitcher' list. Wow- I had no clue birdwatching was so intense. I guess one could judge my love of photography is on the borderline of obsessive (wink, wink)... so to each their own!!!

Back to Mark, he would hug the glass to hug the birds- too precious! These pictures were taken last week when we were out and about. I have some pictures from this week with snow that I will be posting later. I hope everyone is enjoying the week!

Really serious now...... Ummmmm........so cute! Turning around to make sure we KNEW he was watching the birds...... Using my 'vintage color fade' with texture.... These were all taken inside at HighBanks- a new concept for me and something I plan to work on all Winter to improve (indoor shots with no flash).... I did not use my flash and shot in manual mode adjusting my ISO.......It is harder (for me) to judge indoor ISO, shutter speed etc...than outdoor...so I will have lots of practice this Winter to improve.........Hands Down- natural lighting is best for photographs~hint, why I only shoot outdoors with occassional indoor sessions. :-)

Daddy, Mark and me had such a nice day. Mark and Daddy had haircut's (Mark's-long overdue) at Daddy's barber, then we went to Highbanks Park right down the street to let Mark run around. It is a 'heatwave' up here at 50 degrees and sunny~ after being in the 30's we were like....time to go outside...... yea!!!!! He had so much fun looking at birds, dogs and waving to all the people. He was quite a hit out and about today. Everyone said that he was so darling in his hat and a handsome little boy!!! After looking at the pictures I took, I have to agree that he is one cute kid!!!! I was also happy to see other photographers out and about today snapping away~ makes me feel 'normal'...wink, wink! I was actually taking pictures to put on our Christmas cards, and now my problem is picking just ONE!!!! We hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! I am so thankful for many things in my life, but most of all my family!!!!! I will be adding as I go, so be sure to check back for more later! :-)

Miss Caroline.....so precious! Along with Miss Caroline's beautiful family and Sugarbelle, her pony....this is her most prized possession, SnugglePuppy- in tow! Love this 'pouty' look- we all started to get cold about now.

One of my favorite photos- so artistic looking and definitely one of a kind! I was far, far, far away in a land called Plain City (it actually is less than 10 miles, but it sounds far-right?) to meet little cutie-patootie Caroline. When I first arrived, I was greeted by 8 dogs telling me hello I am sure. Then I met Caroline's beautiful family a couple of minutes later. Mom, Chris, told me she was so excited to meet "Mrs. Jennifer". I always love to hear that they are happy to see me! Caroline wanted to show me all her beautiful dresses, and her stuff animal, SnugglePuppy! I asked if she could show me around her beautiful farm and introduce me to her 7 year old pony named Sugarbelle- how cute! She was so excited, forgetting that it was 29 degrees outside. We walked all around and she even got on Sugarbelle briefly for me. I will have to finish this creative session later this week because it really got a little too cold for all of us. We were able to get a ton of great shots, but stay tuned for more! Thanks so much for bearing the cold.....see you in a couple of days..... thus far these are some of my favorite photographs!

Jack-8, Lane-6 and Kate-4 are another family I could of eaten up! Jack was such a ham- pretending to be a rock star, and looked so dashing in his glasses. Kate wanted to soak me in first, and after the initial shyness wore off- she shined- and so beautifully!!!!! And Mom- Mimi, told me that Miss Lane is her shyest one, but from the look of these stunning pictures- she really blossomed in front of my camera. By the end of our session, all three kiddos were like...."I want my picture taken- look at me!" The girls found these huge leaves that made for awesome 'props', while Jack found a 'mini-tree' down by the River. The weather was perfect and mild and in the 60's...but we are in for it this weekend with highs in the 30's and snow. :-) So excited! Ask me this in March and I bet I will change my tune- hahaha! I just love the seasons!

Also, a BIG thanks to the families that are patiently waiting for their creative sessions. With the weather being in the 30's and snow/rain......we are waiting for Mother Nature to give us some days with no rain and maybe a bit warmer would be nice too! Just gorgeous!!!! Man, how life has changed in 2.5 years-hahaha! When I look and love 'vintage' tractors-hahahaha! These are from last month too- just now got time to work on them! Mark was a little unsure about the tractor which is just gorgeous and a beautiful shade of red......now he is ok with it, but it is COLD to be on on a daily basis!!!!
